South Florida country music is it's own scene, with it's own crowds and the people that are drawn to it. While you might see the stereotypical country artist you'd imagine (who might look significantly like Blake Shelton's Wannabe), Kristen Spencer is calm, cool, collected, and talented all in one go. The singer-songwriter is known for her stellar vocal quality and upbeat lyrics, as well as a commanding stage presence. She has performed at events such as Clematis By Night as well as been on 99.9 Kiss Country for Make a Song Monday.

I got a chance to chat with her and ask her some questions about her music, career, and upcoming EP. My questions are underlined, her answers are in italic.

THE NOTE: What inspired you to start playing music?

Spencer: Growing up, my best friend and her dad played music and performed different places so it kind of just came to me watching them.

THE NOTE: Your new EP is coming out soon, what can listeners expect from the songs being released?

Spencer: Hopefully something good! I really tried to mesh together the different genres I grew up listening to so I hope everyone can enjoy it.

THE NOTE: What artists do you get inspiration from?

Spencer: One right now that I really love is Maren Morris. I think she's great.

THE NOTE: Your song "Anthem" is really catchy. Where did your inspiration come from?

Spencer: You know, I think just watching what my friends have had to go through with the pressure of dating. I think that kind of inspired it a little.

THE NOTE: What sort of thing would you like people to take from your EP?

Spencer: Music they enjoy listening to!

THE NOTE: What is the writing and album making process like for you?

Spencer: It's been fun, I normally write the songs first then come to my producer's with my ideas and they bring it to life. The production side of it has been really interesting to learn about.

THE NOTE: What's one thing you would want people to know about you to know your music and voice?

Spencer: That it's what I'm passionate about and I hope they enjoy the outcome.

You can check our her youtube channel and her site at the links below, and watch her schedule for dates she'll be performing.
